Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a grassroots movement to encourage, support, and celebrate donations of money, time and/or goods to charities and non-profit organizations. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving was chosen as a balance to the furor of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you were to consider participating in Giving Tuesday, you may have a favorite charitable organization or cause that you would want to support. To offer one suggestion, consider making a gift to UMCOR to support our connectional ministry to communities around the world devastated by significant natural disasters that have been experienced in this year. UMCOR has two funds, one for domestic disaster relief and one for international disaster relief to which you can make a donation. Go to umcmission.org/give to make a donation and enter Advance Special numbers 901670 – U.S. Disaster Response or 982450 – International Disaster Response. Remember, that 100% of your gift to a specific Advance Special project or missionary goes directly to the program you select; all administrative costs for UMCOR are funded through other giving streams in our United Methodist connection.
